I had a GLOOMIS IMX 9" 6# for a couple of months and looked after it. I spent much time one the building, encluding such items as Titanium Reflex Guides, Struble Nickle/Silver Seat and Mammoth Tusk and Tassie Blackwood into the Grip. I used it only a few times and it snapped like a match stick. Possible Fly Strike. None of these high Modulus Rods is for the average Angler as they will not stand up to the rigours of everyday angling. Being accidently knocked, dropped, Struck By Fly are common Place and they are NOT warranted against these things. Read the Warranty before buying.
Faulty manufacture only.. You clip it! Tough Titties Pal. I know I am there right now. Do not pay the high prices for these rods. Though they perform beautifuly are something to aspire too they are too delicate for the average Joe Blow.

You can also snell the fly at home with a length of tippet while it's still in the vise with good light and a magnifier.

Interesting design. Very innovative. At around 5 oz it's pretty light.

To me the weak spot is the drag system. It looks awkward. If you have small hands this might be, pardon the pun, a real problem.

More importantly, when you're most likely to need heavy drag, it seems to me, will be the time you have a big fish on and need two hands to hold the rod.

Salmo Gairdeneri? What is this, 1970?

German naturalist, Johann Walbaum, identified this fish as Oncorhynchus mykiss in 1792. We've known that rainbow trout is genetically closer to the Pacific salmon due to DNA testing. It's been Oncorhynchus mykiss for DECADES now.

Dude, take off the leisure suit, put away the disco ball and throw out the pet rock, then come and join us in the Twenty-FIRST century!

Hi Steve, I assume you've bought a line by now. If not I would recommend Sage's double taper aftm #5 for dry fly. Really slick line, no resistance going through rings, and presents delicately and casts like a WF in terms of distance. However this line really comes into its own at short distances. I have one for my 3# 7' sage launch and 5# for ZXL and both are equally impressive. Englands well respected "Trout and Salmon" magazine rated lines in April issue and the experts were really impressed with this one. It floats perfectly right to the tip (Assuming you don't use a braided loop). Also the best line for czech nymphing (simiilar to the high stick nymphing in the states).

I have no doubts about my purchase of a 9'/5wt, but I need feedback on
the best line for it. BTW...dry fly only.
Thanks,
Steve

Isn't this what Orvis did twenty years ago? They need to be careful. If they don't keep an eye on what they do best, they'll pour a lot of resources and time into something that won't make a return. A good way to ruin a good company.
